Omanyala headlines Team Kenya contingent to Indoor Championships in Belgrade

The World Athletics Indoor Championships are scheduled to be held from 18th to 20th March 2022 in Belgrade, Serbia.

Africa’s 100m record holder Ferdinand Omurwa Omanyala will headline a ten member squad that will represent Team Kenya at the upcoming 18th World Athletics Indoor Championships that are scheduled to be held from 18th to 20th March 2022 in Belgrade, Serbia.

On Monday afternoon, Athletics Kenya (AK) released the full travelling contingent that will include ten athletes and an additional six officials who are expected to arrive in Serbia on Wednesday 16 March, two days before the event gets underway.

Other names on the travelling squad that will be led by Team Leader Kitilit Barnaba Kipkemoi include Daniel Simiu who is fresh from setting a new meeting record at the 3000m Mondeville World Athletics Indoor Race held in France.

The Iten based runner, who will take part in the 3000m in Belgrade, is also fresh from bagging the 10km Valencia Ibercaja - a World Athletics Label Road Race held in January.

“Athletics Kenya has selected a team to represent the country at the World Athletics Indoor Championships to be held on 18th – 20th March, 2022 in Belgrade, Serbia.

The team comprises of:

1. Omanyala Ferdinand - 60m

2. Korir Naomi - 800m

3. Kipruto Collins - 800m

4. Nalyanya Eglay Nafuna - 800m

5. Kibet Noah - 800m

6. Jebitok Ednah - 1500m, 3000m

7. Chebet Beatrice - 3000m

8. Krop Jacob - 3000m

9. Ebenyo Daniel Simiu - 3000m

10. Kipsang Abel ` - 1500m

11. Kitilit Barnaba Kipkemoi - Team Leader

12. Hassan Ahmed - Technical Leader

13. Busienei Janeth - Team Coach

14. Francis Philomena - Team Medical

15. Muraya Lydia - Team Official

16. Wamui Irene - Team Official

The team, led by its Team Leader Mr. Barnaba Kitilit is expected to arrive in Serbia on 16th March, 2022 for the championships,” the statement read.

"We wish to thank World Athletics and The Government of Kenya for the support given to the team as they prepare to travel and participate at the championships."
