Omanyala got off the blocks superbly to finish second in his heat. In the 10000m women's final, Ethiopia grabbed all pordium places.

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala qualified for the 100M semis at the ongoing World Championships in Budapest after finishing second in the second heat on Saturday evening.

The 27-year-old clocked 9.97s to finish behind Noah Lyles who won the race in 9.95s The semis are pencilled for Sunday evening with the finals set to follow later in the night.

Unlike in his past races where he got off the blocks a little slow, Omanyala took off well in Budapest but what appeared to be a slow down towards the end saw Nyles beat him to the race but he nonetheless achieved qualification for tomorrow's semis.

Apart of Nyles other big names that secure passage to the semis include, Fred Kerley, Oblique Seville, Marcell Jacobs, Letsile Tebogo, Akani Simbine and Christine Coleman.

In the 10,000m women's final, Ethiopia's trio of Gudaf Tsegay, Letesenbet Gidey, and Ejgayehu Taye completed a clean sweep after a dramatic finish of a race that saw Netherland's Sifan Hassan, who was ahead with a few meters to go trip after a coming together with Tsegay.

Kenyan trio of Irene Jepchumba Kimais, Agnes Jebet Ngetich and Grace Loibach finished in the fourth, sixth and nighth positions in 31:32:19, 31:34:83, and 31:38:17 respectively. Jepchumba and Jebet registered their season's best time.
