Despite not medaling, Yego's performance is encouraging, especially considering his struggles to surpass the 85-meter mark over the past year
Kenya's sensational javelin thrower Julius Yego missed out on a podium finish in the finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Thursday night.
The self-proclaimed "YouTube Man" and 2016 Olympic silver medalist finished in fifth place with a season-best throw of 87.72 meters.
He trailed two-time Olympian Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, who won gold with a throw of 92.97 meters.

Reigning Olympic and World champion Neeraj Chopra of India secured second place with a throw of 89.45 meters, while Anderson Peters of Grenada claimed bronze with a throw of 88.54 meters.
Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch finished fourth with a throw of 88.50 meters.
Yego started the event strong with a throw of 80.29 meters, later improving to 87.72 meters. However, he struggled in his subsequent attempts, recording throws of 84.90 meters, 83.20 meters, and 81.50 meters in the fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds, respectively.
Despite not medaling, Yego's performance is encouraging, especially considering his struggles to surpass the 85-meter mark over the past year.
He secured his spot at the Summer Games through World Athletics rankings.
Before the games, Yego expressed frustration at not having a coach during his preparation for his fourth and final Olympic Games.
However, his hard work paid off as he improved on his 2021 Tokyo performance, where he was eliminated in the qualification stage.
