Richardson’s rise in the sprinting world has been remarkable.

American sprinting sensation Sha’Carri Richardson has revealed the unique mindset and determination that set her apart from her opponents.

From her record-breaking 10.75-second run as a freshman at the NCAA Division I Championships in 2019, to her victories in the Olympics and World Championships, Richardson’s journey exemplifies her relentless pursuit of excellence.

In an intimate reflection shared during Sprint Season 1 on Netflix, Richardson opened up about the unwavering drive that has shaped her success. Even as a child, she recognized her desire to excel in everything she did.

“I know I am not like everybody else. Even when I was younger, I used to dance, and I was like, ‘I want to make sure I dance the best because I want to be in the middle.’ When it came to choir, I always used to sing and practice hard because I wanted to be at the front. I just always knew I was meant to be,” she shared.

Richardson’s rise in the sprinting world has been remarkable.

She claimed the 100-meter World Championship title and a 4x100-meter relay gold in 2023, defended her U.S. 100-meter title in 2024, and secured Olympic silver at the Paris Games the same year. But for Richardson, success extends beyond accolades—it comes from an unshakable belief in her inner strength.

“It’s not about your looks. It’s about what you have on the inside that’s going to get you to the goal,” she emphasized.

Her perspective also shapes her approach on race day. Richardson views competition as a feast for the prepared, a metaphor reflecting her readiness to seize the moment.

“Once the gun goes off, that’s it, that’s the gravy. That’s the entrée right there, and you’ve got to be ready to eat. If you don’t want to eat, you’re going to starve,” she said passionately.

Through triumphs and challenges, Richardson’s faith in her abilities and her religious beliefs remain steadfast.

“As good as I have been definitively blessed to be, nothing of this fleshly and material realm will stop that,” she concluded.
