Omanyala sets the bar high after breaking his day old national record and personal best
Sprinter Ferdinard Omanyala is a man on the rise.This is after breaking his day old new national record and a personal best in the Olympics 100m semi finals held at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, Japan on Sunday.
Omanyala equaled the national record and his best which stood at 10.01 on Saturday during the first round held at the same venue.
The 25-year old was the lone ranger in the race after his compatriot Mark Otieno was barred from competing hours to the heats for testing positive for a banned substance.
Omanyala who finished third recorded an impressive 10.00 seconds to set the bar higher as well as to become the first Kenyan in the Olympics semi finals over the distance.

American Fred Kerley won the race after clocking 9.96 while Canadian AndreGrasse sealed the automatic qualification slot by finishing second in 9.98 seconds.
Omanyala's hopes of advancing to the final as one of the fastest losers was dealt a blow in the third heat when African record holder and South African Akani Simbine alongside Italian Lamont Marcell eclipsed his time to qualify ahead of him.
Simbine, the reigning Commonwealth champion crossed the line at 9.90 while Marcell set an area record of 9.84 seconds.

With the defending champion Usain Bolt having hanged his spikes, a new champion who is not of Jamaican descent will be crowned as former world champion Yohan Blake finished two places behind Omurwa while ObliqueSeville was fourth in heat two.
