
Trinidad and Tobago set to host the Commonwealth Youth Games

The Games will be comprised of seven disciplines
Budding athletes will jostle for top honours in seven disciplines in the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games set for 4-11 August 2023, the organizers have announced.
The Games, that will be held in two clusters with Couva in Trinidad taking one while Tobago will host the the other. Athletes aged 14-18 will fight for medals in the seven disciplines.
The seven are; Aquatics (Swimming) – male and female, Athletics – male and female, Cycling - (Road Race, Time Trial and Track) – male and female, FAST5 Netball – female, Rugby Sevens – male and female, Triathlon – male and female and Beach Volleyball – male and female
Commonwealth Games Federation President Dame Louise Martin said the Games will help mould the tomorrow's world beaters.
“We are delighted to confirm the Sport Programme for the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games, featuring much-anticipated debuts in the Youth Games for the dynamic and innovative FAST5 Netball and Triathlon. It promises to be a thrilling and competitive Games and exceptional showcasing of Caribbean and Commonwealth Sport. An invaluable springboard for the stars and leaders of tomorrow, the Games will be a truly special and inspiring experience for young athletes from across the Commonwealth.”
Kenya last participated at the Youth Commonwealth Games in 2015 in Samoa where it emerged fourth in the world and jetted back with seven medals.
Notable Kenyan athletes who starred in the previous editions include Willy Tarbei who set a Games Record of 1:46:05 in the 800m with Kumari Taki also doing the same in the 1500m.
Taki, who represented the country in the past edition of the World Athletics Championships in Oregon stopped the clock after 3:39:80.
10,000m Tokyo Olympian Sheila Chelangat got her first medal, a bronze medal at the Youth Commonwealth Games.
