Up to 25 athletes have been nabbed just this year alone for committing various offenses
Athletics Kenya President Gen. (Rtd) Jack Tuwei has cautioned the junior athletes that there is no room to cheat in sports at the moment going to the tremendous technological advancements at the moment.
Speaking in Machakos during the U20 anti-doping seminar, Tuwei challenged the upcoming athletes not to spoil the country's reputation, and soil the image of those who made it an athletic powerhouse in the process.
Everyone in athletics has a collective responsibility and duty to act with integrity and make the experience better not only for those that compete. The President went on to assure that AK will continue with the sensitization seminars on the issue, but at the same time insisted that it is the obligation of the athletes to ensure that they compete clean.
"There is no way, one can cheat in the current world of sports, the level of technology is too high, and no one will escape if he or she is cheating. The generation that set the standard for Kenya as a running powerhouse never cheated, why do you want to cheat and spoil the country's reputations? It's your obligation to ensure you compete clean and that's why we are doing these kinds of education to enlighten athletes, let us keep learning," the AK president said.
In a statement released earlier this week, AK noted with concern the increasing number of dopers reported by the Athletics Integrity Unit that has seen up to 25 athletes nabbed just this year alone for committing various offenses.
