After 8 new players, Chelsea need a new coach: Tuchel is sacked!

Reading Time: 3min | Wed. 07.09.22. | 12:18

New owner decided to change the new coach after his third loss in just 7 games

After spending 282 million euros in this transfer window, the last thing new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly wanted to see is his club losing to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. That defeat, third in just seven games was enough – the American decided to fire the German. Thomas Tuchel will be now looking for a new club, while Boehly will have to find another coach, after the players were already brought in under the supervision of the sacked coach. It seems that the new owner is not handling things well since he took over, and decided to become and interim sporting director as well….According to the earliest reports from London, Brighton coach Graham Potter is the early favorite, but it will be just a matter of time before other candidates like Mauricio Pochettino or even Zinedine Zidane pop up.

For the time being, Anthony Barry is likely to take temporary charge until Todd Boehly decided who will take the hot seat. The Telegraph is writing that other reasons, and not only defeat from Dinamo Zagreb were key to Tuchel's sacking. It seems now that the German tactician had his share of tensions with the American owner who decided to change him on his 100th day as the owner, and after Tuchel's 100 game for Chelsea as a manager (a loss to Dinamo). Concerns had been growing that Tuchel was not the right man to lead the new era under new owners, and he is now on the ever growing list of people from Roman Abramovich era who were swept away by Boehly. The American, also owner of the USA baseball club LA Dodgers comes from the American state of mind – new owner brings his own staff, own director and own manager, but it's really strange (not to say foolish) that he didn't do that just after the season was over, but now, when the season is under way, and the transfer window is shut.

As per Telegraph, Tuchel made it clear that he did not enjoy the extra responsibility he was given in the transfer window. He has reiterated his disappointment that former technical and performance advisor Petr Cech left Stamford Bridge following the takeover and revealed on Saturday that he would not be involved in the appointment of a new sporting director. It is also reported that his relationship with a number of players in the squad has deteriorated so all those reasons probably played a crucial part in Boehly's decision to sack him.

"On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here. As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition. Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach“ reads the statement.
