Akumu asked fans not to tire of supporting the team with the players working round the clock to deliver positive results for the nation
Harambee Stars' experienced midfielder Anthony Akumu has urged Kenyans to offer their unwavering support to the team ahead of their final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Kenya faces must-win ties against Zimbabwe and Namibia in order to seal a ticket to the continental tourney set to be hosted in Morocco in 2025.
Akumu asked fans not to tire of supporting the team with the players working round the clock to deliver positive results for the nation.
“The fans should continue supporting us, they shouldn't lose hope in us, and we will give our best on the pitch always.
Before playing in these qualifiers we had good friendly matches, the performances were good, we won some and drew some.
We were looking forward to taking those performances to the AFCON and World Cup qualifiers, but some results were not on our side like the last two games.
We'll move on from there and analyse the next two games and I believe that six points are up for grabs,” said Akumu.
Harambee Stars sit third in Group J with four points from their opening four games, four behind Zimbabwe who currently occupy the final qualification spot in the group.
Akumu added that the squad is under no pressure ahead of the crucial games with head coach Engin Firat switching attention to the final two games after deflating back-to-back losses against Cameroon.
“For now, the pressure was just on the last two losses, from there the coach said that is the nature of football and started working on the two upcoming games.
We will see how the training will be once everyone joins the camp. Of course, we are just focusing on winning both games,” said Akumu.
