Mara Sugar FC picked up another impressive result, this time a 1-1 tie against AFC Leopards in Sunday’s Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match at Dandora Stadium.
The only negative for the Sugar Millers was that the match ended in a red card for head coach George Midenyo who will watch the next fixture from the stands.
A surprised Midenyo said he still does not understand why he was sent off in the dying minutes of the match.
“To be honest I also don’t know why I got the red card. If I had protested any of the referee’s decisions then perhaps I should have received a warning, not a straight send off but I take it in my stride and will not allow it to distract us,” he said.
On the one point his side picked on the road, Midenyo said he is satisfied though he would have preferred to pick all three points as his side led for most of the match.
“When you consider the calibre of the team we were playing against, we are satisfied with the point. AFC Leopards is a big club and to get a result against them is a big plus.”
Mara Sugar had scored first in the match played when Meshack Karani found the back of the net in the 43rd minute.
But the league debutants could not hold onto the lead allowing Sydney Lokale to equalise for Leopards deep in injury time.
Mara Sugar retain their second place on the log having picked 15 points from eight matches out of which they have won four, drawn three times and lost once.
For Leopards, it was a great relief as the draw came on the back of two losses against Ulinzi Stars and Murangá Seal.
