The club made the announcement on their social media platforms on Tuesday evening

Kaizer Chiefs, home to Kenyan international Anthony Akumu, have issued a statement confirming that they will appeal Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) decision that denied them their request to postpone their remaining games for the month of December after the club recorded an increased number of Covid-19 cases that shot from an initial 31 upto 52 infected people.

Yesterday, Monday 20 December, Amakhosi received communication from the PSL wherein the league governing body declined the club’s request for a postponement of matches despite a severe outbreak of Covid-19 cases that saw 52 of the Club’s personnel test positive for the virus.

In a rebuttal statement released on Tuesday evening, Chiefs expressed their disappointment in their requests being turned down as they stated they would take the issue forward to the country’s football mother body, the South African Football Association or the Dispute Resolution Committee.

“Kaizer Chiefs is disappointed and taken aback by the contrasting lack of urgency from the PSL after having taken almost three weeks to address the matter. Chiefs would not have benefited from the postponement in any way as it would have caused unnecessary fixture congestion later in the season for the Club.

We are studying the feedback and will engage our legal department with the view of appealing this unjustifiable decision through the football mother body, the South African Football Association or the Dispute Resolution Committee. We believe justice will prevail in the end,” the club wrote in their statement.

Amidst the coronavirus cases and the battle with the PSL, the Glamour Boys have a match on Wednesday evening where they welcome Maritzburg United at the FNB Stadium.
