Saudi revolution continues with the signing of former Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain star

Midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq on a three-year contract, teaming up with two former Liverpool greats, Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson. The Dutch midfielder has now completed a trio of people the Reds' fans will gaze upon with interest.

The 32-year-old wants to re-launch his career after a couple of years of injuries and a lack of first-team football. Oh and not to mention he will earn a lot of money. Wijnaldum spent the previous season on loan in Italy with Jose Mourinho's Roma but returned to his parent club, PSG, for the new campaign. He was initially linked with a return to the Netherlands, with both PSV and Ajax showing interest in bringing the former Liverpool midfielder back to his homeland. However, the 32-year-old's move to Saudi Arabia will see him join two former Liverpool captains.

Wijnaldum had joined Liverpool from Newcastle United in 2016 and enjoyed significant success with the club, winning the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020 during his time with the Reds. The Dutchman, who scored 22 goals and 16 assists in 237 appearances for the Reds, moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. However, he faced challenges during his time at PSG and was subsequently loaned out to Roma, where he made only 14 appearances in Serie A.

Steven Gerrard took over as the manager of Al-Ettifaq a couple of months ago, and the club also secured the signing of former Lyon striker Moussa Dembele. Al-Ettifaq is currently in fifth place in the Saudi top flight after playing five games.
