Should he complete the move, he will face competition for game time from Lewis Bandi and Paul Ochuoga

Gor Mahia’s quest to reinforce the squad, ahead of the 2026-2027 season, has reportedly taken them back to Ghana, with the club heavily linked with the signature of Asante Kotoko right back Emmanuel Kotei.

The rumoured transfer of Kotei, emerging from Ghanaian media, comes after Gor Mahia administration manager Ronald Ngala revealed that the club is eyeing to strengthen the right back position.

Should the move materialize, Kotei will be the latest Ghanaian, in recent times, to don the famous green jersey, joining Ebenezer Assifuah and Ebenezer Adukwaw and the already departed FKF Premier League's Most Valuable Player (MVP) Enoch Morisson.

Mozzart Sport takes a look at the player, who is expected to rival Paul Ochuoga, should Gor Mahia complete the transfer.

Kotei is a 28-year old versatile defender, who primarily plays as a right back but can also play as a left back as well as on the right side of midfield.

His versatility has made him one of the best defenders in the Ghanaian league over the past few seasons.

According to Ghanaian media, Kotei’s pace allows him to contribute both offensively and defensively.

Kotei turned out for Ghanaian Premier League side Tamale City from 2022 until January 2023 when he switched to Nsoatreman FC.

His impressive performances, in 2023, caught the attention of Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko who signed him in January 2024.

Kotei had a good start to life at Kotoko, establishing himself as a key starter.

However, Kotei’s start to his second year with Kotoko suffered a major blow after he suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in January 2025, keeping him out for slightly over a year.

Since his return from injury, he struggled with playing time in 2026 before parting ways with the club upon the expiry of his contract.
