AFC Leopards host arch rivals Gor Mahia in the Mashemeji Derby at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday afternoon

Ahead of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League League (FKFPL) first leg clash, two legends have offered their views.

Bonface Ambani who won the league with Ingwe in 1998, their last title, holds that it will boil down to luck.

"It's never about form or past record when it comes to this clash. You wake up and if you feel the right push, and motivation to perform then you carry the day."

Leopards are winless since the season began over four fixtures.

Gor Mahia on the other hand has blown hot and cold winning twice and drawing an equal number of games.

"Gor Mahia should not underrate Leopards based on the form, they could be shocked."

Ingwe won the last encounter 2-1 breaking a seven-year drought in the biggest football rivalry in the country.

Tobias "Juakali" Ocholla, another legend of the derby, believes that his former side Gor Mahia holds a slight advantage over their rivals Leopards.

Yet, according to the coach, whoever will dominate the midfield and hold possession will carry the day.

"The battle will be won in the midfield," the former Kenyan international said.

"Gor Mahia holds a slight advantage because of experienced players they have compared to Leopards, but the team that will control the midfield will win it."

Like Ambani, Ocholla agrees that form or past record has no effect in determining the derby outcome.

"It's all about the pride of defending the community and dominating your opponent."

The Saturday fixture will mark the 94th time the two decorated Kenyan clubs will be meeting.

Gor Mahia leads the statistics with 31 win compared to Leopards' 28 victories. 34 games have been drawn.
