Amorim stubbornly sticks to his pointless system, Neville worried he'd be sacked soon

Despite the awful beginning of the season and yesterday's defeat to Man City, the Portuguese dismissed the possibility of any system changes, although his job is seriously jeopardized

Last season, Man United were 14th in the Premier League. Still, the general public opinion was that Ruben Amorim arrived too late (mid-November) to fix Erik ten Hag's mistakes and clean up the Dutchman's mess.

The expectations from the new campaign at Old Trafford were high, given that the Portuguese completed the pre-season with the team and the club spent €250 million on reinforcements. However, after four EPL rounds, the Red Devils are 14th!

They lost to Arsenal in the opening game, drew against Fulham a week later, and barely beat Burnley thanks to a suspicious added-time penalty. In the meantime, they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by the fourth-tier side Grimsby.

Yesterday's crushing 3-0 defeat to Man City just added to the impression that this team does not develop and increased doubt in Ruben Amorim and his capability to push his crew forward. All that seriously jeopardizes the Portuguese's position, and he seems aware of that.

"The performance was not good I'm trying to be rational. I see the record. I understand the frustration and I understand the decisions that come with that. I take the critics. That's it."

"Until I'm here, I'll do my best. The rest is not my decision. I'm suffering more [than the fans]," Amorim said via Sky Sports.

However, the 40-year-old strategist stubbornly adheres to his system, which produces no results, and evidently doesn't intend to change it.

"When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man. I don't believe in that in the system or whatever. So I play my way and I'm going to play my way until I want to change it," he said.

United's legend and now a pundit, Gary Neville, also highlighted the manager's obstinacy and inflexibility.

"I think there will be some pressure applied to the manager and his rigidity of sticking with the system."

"City have beaten them well and comfortably. This has been a nothing of a performance. United have just been beaten. With Chelsea next week, another defeat and big questions would start to be asked," the former defender stated via Sky Sports.

Nevertheless, that wasn't the end of Neville's analysis, as he publicly expressed disappointment with United's current position in the Premier League.

"Man Utd are 14th, we're only four games in. We can't be getting into October where Man Utd are 14th or 15th in the league otherwise the manager will be in trouble. They have to start winning quickly."

"Next week if they lose, they would go to 15th and 16th. It's five games in and before you know it you're in October and they're in the bottom half of the table. And that's where they can't be, having spent £200m and giving him a pre-season," Neville argued.

Finally, he commented on Amorim's status, voicing his concern.

"I'm worried about the manager, I'm worried about what's going to happen in this next few weeks. I don't think it's a time for panic, but I've seen this before, we've seen this film," concluded the ex-United captain.

As for Pep Guardiola, he was thrilled with his team's performance, specifically pointing out the two scorers - Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.

"Erling has been incredible since the start but this season he is better than ever. I would say better than the Treble year."

"Phil is the core, the heart of the club, from the academy and he loves City. To have him back is good news," the Spaniard said via Goal.com.
