Former Tottenham playmaker says Harry Kane has reached the level of Diego Armando Maradona. Yes, he actually says that

David Ginola was one of those one-of-a-kind French magicians back in the 90s, along with Eric Cantona and much younger Zinedine Zidane. After the prolific three-year-long tenure at PSG, he joined Newcastle United in 1995, where he was on the verge of winning the EPL title with the likes of Les Ferdinand, Faustino Asprilla and others. From there, he moved to Tottenham Hotspur for another very successful stint, which made him the Spurs' icon.

So when he speaks about the club even now, two and a half decades later, his words resonate pretty loudly. But those last thoughts of his are almost ludicrous, let alone hyperbolic and somewhat untrue.

Asked about another Harry Kane's masterful performance - this time in the trashing of Ginola's other EPL side, Newcastle - the Frenchman praised him to such an extent that it was a tad bit unpleasant.

"The new playmaker at Spurs is Harry Kane. I told you - Harry Kane, the playmaker, the number 10, he's like Maradona now," Ginola said on Sky Sports after the game.

"He's playing in the middle of the park, long balls, short balls, scoring, assisting, wow. This is a new Harry Kane."

Back in October 2017, Tottenham star Kane had the privilege of meeting Maradona before his side's 4-1 win over Liverpool in the Premier League.

Maradona offered some words of wisdom to the England captain prior to kick-off, which ultimately paid dividends.

"Don't always go near post with your shots," the former Napoli and Barcelona star told Kane through his former international teammate Ossie Ardiles.

"Go across goal sometimes. You know why? Goalkeepers watch you on TV all the time. So next time… across!

"Wow, what a goalscorer," he told the then 24-year-old.

Asked afterwards if it was an inspiration for him to meet the 1986 World Cup winner, Kane responded at the time: "Yes, definitely.

"That's what it's about, meeting these people, feeling their good positive vibes and using that in my game."
