The ex-Barcelona offspring refused to shake hands with Sebastien Pocognoli after he subbed him off against Angers
It didn't work for Ansu Fati at Barcelona, despite extremely high expectations and more than promising start. He tried his luck on loan at Brighton, but it seems like at AS Monaco, now on a season-long lone, he has finally returned to his former self. At least, in terms of the quality of football he's presenting.
However, his attitude is a different story...
After being subbed off in the 70th minute during Saturday's 1-1 draw against Angers, Ansu Fati refused to shake the hand of new Monaco manager Sebastien Pocognoli as he made his way off the pitch.
Talking at the press conference ahead of Monaco's Champions League game against Tottenham, Pocognoli highlighted the need for Fati to work on 'emotional control'.
"Beyond the reaction (from Fati), which was clumsy, this kind of episode teaches me a lot about what we need to work on with some players and with Ansu, there is a need [to work on] emotional control. I am not a manager who closes himself off from one reaction, so long as the player has the right attitude the next day. So there is no affair beyond what we have seen. It was unfortunate, but no more than that," said Pocognoli, adding that the two of them spoke after the match.
"He reacted in a good way. That is, the player is disappointed when coming off is normal, but there is always thinking behind it, be it medical or tactical."
