Antony’s tears and Bayern Munich admission

The Brazilian forwards had an emotional introduction in Betis

It was a proper transfer day drama for Antony. The Brazilian winger didn’t have much offers during the recently closed transfer window as apart from Betis, nobody wanted him really. He will be remembered as one of Manchester United’s biggest flops, and as you probably know, the competition in this department is really, really big since 2013. He was loaned to Betis last season and thrived there, looking like a star which was paid heavily from Ajax in 2022. So an option of returning to Seville was the only thing he wanted. But not only did United had to lower down their demands, but they actually ended up being 60 million pounds in minus over the Brazilian. The transfer was in danger of collapsing but due to United’s, but rather Antony’s demands, as his camp insisted there was still a shortfall in wages to be settled before pen could be put to paper, but Betis couldn’t afford that.

In the end, as Antony put it after completing the deal, ‘it was never about money’ and he signed the deal and couldn’t hold tears of joy.

"It was hard to sleep, I'd never been through anything like that, seeing the affection from all the Betis fans yesterday, today, I had people waiting in front of my house at two in the morning. I have a lot of affection for this club, a lot of love. It was always my first choice, which is why I waited until the last few days to finalize the transfer. I arrived in Manchester on July 14th, I spent the whole time in the hotel with my father. It was difficult, but to be honest, Manchester is in the past for me now, I'm at Betis and I'm focused here” he said on his official presentation.

Speaking with Brazilian journalist, he revealed that he had another offer, even better than Betis’ and it was the German giant. It was Bayern, who is now official desperate for a signing (any signing) as they even considered Antony.

"I spoke to Bayern Munich the day before everything was almost done with Betis (95%). I was offered seven million euros net per year. But I rejected Bayern & told them I gave my word to Betis. And I'll stick to my word. Out of respect, affection & knowing that I'm happy here. I feel calm making this choice” he revealed.
