Anyone but Ronaldo! Tomas Soucek urges his teammates to keep the Portugal legend from scoring

Battles in the top tier of the UEFA Nations League continue around Europe. The game between Portugal and the Czech Republic will present a stern test for West Ham United's midfielder Tomas Soucek as his team visits Cristiano Ronaldo's Selecao at Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon.

The Czech gave an excellent account of themselves with an entertaining 2-2 draw with Spain at the weekend. Now they face the Portuguese team of similar quality, but even more goal threat.

"Spain and Switzerland are strong, but we got four points against them. Portugal is at the same level as these teams. I hope we can keep the form and quality to show what we're worth. We'll try to be a balanced team. Portugal is different from Spain, because they attack the goal more, but I think we will be able to deal with them and show our value on the pitch."

Soucek also praised Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, both from Manchester United.

"Our objective is not to concede goals, especially from Cristiano Ronaldo. We have to be especially careful with him, but he's not the only threat. Bruno Fernandes showed great quality at Manchester United. All the players are looking to him to produce something. He's the one who usually makes decisive passes."

Portugal leads the group, with four points, the same as the Czech Republic, with Spain in third. The Swiss are without points after two rounds.

The finals of the League of Nations takes place from 14 to 18 June 2023, with the winners of the four groups of League A, with the last ones of each of the groups going down to League B.
