The former Gor Mahia tactician played a decisive role in shaping the destination of the league crown after his side shocked Leopards 2-1 at Kericho Green Stadium, a result that confirmed Gor Mahia as champions.

Philip Wasai struck twice in quick succession to hand Fred Ambani’s side a painful defeat and end their hopes of winning a first league title since 1998.

Speaking after the encounter, Pamzo admitted he expected a difficult afternoon against a side chasing the title and revealed that patience formed a key part of their game plan.

“I knew the game would be tough, just like the first-leg encounter with them. In the first half, it was Ingwe who were on top, and we waited for them, waited for the right moment to pounce,” said Omollo.

Known for his defensive discipline and preference for clean sheets, the experienced coach was, however, left slightly disappointed after conceding despite his side’s impressive display.

“We dominated the second half and got the goals from Wasai. I must commend the boys for the wonderful display, and I am happy for them,” he noted.

Pamzo also credited his substitutions for changing the rhythm of the game, particularly singling out Francis Omondi for his impact after coming off the bench.

The APS Bomet coach explained that leaving the midfielder out of the starting team was part of the tactical plan.

I decided to leave Omondi out and introduce him later. I am happy with how he played. He brought leadership upfront and in the attacking midfield and also made our defense calmer,” he explained.

“We have the kind of players who know what to do when they get into action, and he did just that,” added Pamzo.

The victory not only handed APS Bomet a major result in their own campaign but also dealt a crushing blow to AFC Leopards’ long-awaited title charge.

Leopards needed a victory to keep pressure on rivals Gor Mahia in the closing stages of the title race, but the defeat left them four points behind K’Ogalo with only one match remaining.

Pamzo’s comments came shortly after AFC Leopards head coach Fred Ambani launched a scathing attack on the standards of officiating, blaming refereeing decisions for the outcome of the match.
