The executives from Wanda Metropolitano Stadium expect the Slovenian to extend his contract in the coming days

Although in the previous season they failed to defend the championship throne, and even to keep up with the city rival Real and at least maintain uncertainty - before the new championship race, Los Colchoneros did not decide to bring in massive signings to try to get back to the top. Instead of chasing newcomers in the red and white part of Madrid, they embarked on a mission to extend contracts with important players whose contracts run out next summer and, according to the Spanish media, they succeeded in doing so.

Atlético Madrid have resolved the capital part of the job when it comes to the extension of the contracts with the players who are entering the last year of cooperation, considering that in the coming days Jan Oblak is expected to put his initials on a new deal which should keep him until 2028, Marca reports, and according to announcements from the same source from the Iberian Peninsula, midfielder Thomas Lemar has already decided to take the same step, accepting a contract extension until 2027.

The Slovenian goalkeeper, who arrived in Madrid from Benfica in 2014, negotiated a six-year contract with the club's executives months ago.

If Oblak really stays in the current environment until the end of the planned cooperation, he would reach an impressive 14 years in the same environment.

With the agreement reached, the leaders of the Madrid club avoided greater uncertainty regarding the goalkeeper's fate, given that he was entering the last year of his contract, which means that he could already reach a contract with a possible new employer next winter.

The Spanish media pointed out that Oblak's salary will remain unchanged and that he will collect a net amount of 10 million euros per year in the coming period. Deputy captain to Koke has established himself as one of the leaders of the current generation between the posts, and has recorded playing minutes in 352 matches so far.

At the same time, Los Colchoneros also agreed on the continuation of cooperation with another player who is entering the last year of his contract - Thomas Lemar, and according to the new agreement, the midfielder will remain in the Spanish capital until 2027. The agreement with Lemar was also preceded by long negotiations, and the club and the player found a common language after the French international changed his agent.
