On Monday morning, the Blaugrana announced that he would be undergoing surgery in the afternoon

Believe it or not, the season has already ended for Marc-Andre ter Stegen! As things stand, Barcelona keeper - who also finally became Germany No. 1 following Manuel Neuer's farewell - will be sidelined at least until April 2025 due to a horrific injury he suffered on Sunday in La Liga clash at Villarreal.

The German goalkeeper will have an operation on Monday afternoon, the club confirmed today. The Blaugrana confirmed a complete rupture of his patellar tendon, and also promised a second update after the surgery.

Ter Stegen, 32, collapsed to the ground in agony after claiming a ball in the air against Villarreal, and was stretchered off immediately. Taken to hospital, Ter Stegen's reaction made it clear that it was a serious injury.

Now, it's up to Hansi Flick and the club's board to respond to this and find Ter Stegen's replacement.

Inaki Pena stood between the sticks for several months last season, but Barcelona could also look for a goalkeeper in the January transfer market.
