FKF signed a seven-year broadcast deal with Tanzanian broadcaster Azam TV
Azam Chief Operations Officer Yahya Mohamed has challenged Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) bigwigs Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards to consider having fan festivals in the coming season.
On Thursday 31 August 2023, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) signed a seven-year broadcast deal with Tanzanian broadcaster Azam TV that will see the broadcaster air the FKF Premier League.
Speaking during the unveiling of the sponsorship deal, Mohamed asked the two clubs, to consider holding festivals before the start of a new campaign as a way of engaging their fans and pulling more supporters to the game.
"We recognize that Kenyan teams are big but we see the festivals that are happening in Tanzania, the likes of Simba Day and Yanga Day. They have now become big festivals and other clubs including Singida Fountain Gate, Azam FC, Namungo, Coastal Union have all had their festivals.
The festivals not only bring the fans together but are also important to generate some revenue. We have to strive to have Gor Mahia Day and AFC Leopards Day in the coming season," Mohammed posed.
The broadcast deal is worth around Ksh 145 million per year and will increase by 100,000 USD annually.
The FKFPL has not had a broadcaster since the exit of Startimes two years ago, and the move to have Azam beam matches will go a long way in growing the league.
