Babu says Okello is enjoying a good run but believes that Tanui will soon get more playtime.

Nzoia Sugar head coach Salim Babu has explained why his February signing Alfred Tanui Emoni has is not getting much playtime since his midseason switch to the Bungoma-based club.

Tanui and Babu reunited at Nzoia when the tactician was named new Nzoia Sugar coach and he decided to sign the striker from Posta Rangers where he was not being fielded. The pair had worked together at Kisumu All-Stars during the 2020-21 season where the stirker scored 14 goals and was named National Super League (NSL) player of the season.

The pair is back together but unlike at AllStars where Tanui was the main man upfront, at Nzoia he has had to play second fiddle, always coming off the bench. He is yet to start a game with Babu preferring Levis Okello as the lead striker.

Babu has explained that Okello is currently doing a good job and cannpt be dropped. He however believes that Tanui will start seeing more minutes in the coming games.

“Tanui is a good striker and he is really working hard, with time I am confident that he will start banging goals easily. Right now he is not playing much because we have Okello who is doing really well and if it is not broken, you don’t need to fix it. I keep encouraging him in training and he understands that I have full confidence in him. We still have many games to go and he will definitely get more minutes in the coming games,” he stated.
