The eccentric footballer thankfully left the scene unharmed

Super Mario was super lucky on Thursday night! Italian footballer Mario Balotelli survived a scary car crash on a road close to his hometown of Brescia. For reasons yet to be determined, the striker skidded off the road and wrecked his black Audi.

The Adana Demirspor centre-forward used his football injury to travel back to Italy and visit friends. It could have been tragic, but he came out unharmed, staggering from the car's cockpit. All the airbags in Balotelli's car had deployed, and the footballer was attended to by medical personnel.

Balotelli tested positive for the alcohol pre-test and then refused to be subjected to full alcohol testing, something that is allowed by Italian law. However, that meant that his driving licence had to be confiscated on the spot.

Of course, as soon as the news of the accident broke, the social media in Italy went mad. Just a few days ago, Mario said in an interview that he is still the best Italian striker and should be a part of the national team in next year's European championship. This accident was another reminder that this guy is never going to mature.

"First of all, I wasn't drunk! I just caused a stupid accident with the car. Everyone is talking about shit like that. I can understand one who makes an accident involving others or when someone is injured. I just smashed a car and went home with another. Instead of talking about all the serious things that are happening in the world, like life and wars, you want to put me on the papers' front pages just because I crashed my car. It's pointless!"

The local police confiscated his license. Balotelli also refused transportation to the hospital - and went home by driving off, presumably with a friend.
