Burundi custodian signs contract extension that will keep him at the coast untill 2023.

Bandari goalkeeper Justin Ndikumana has renewed his stay at the club for the next three years.

The Burundian custodian joined the coastal club in August 2019 from the 2009 league champions Sofapaka on a two-year deal.

Ndikumana who faced minimal challenge from the duo of Michael Wanyika and Mustapha Oduor in his first three months at the club eventually established himself as the first choice and is currently placed second in the race for the 'Golden Glove'.

The club's team manager Albert Ogari confirmed that the shot stopper was handed a lengthy contract by the board by virtue of being in their plans and impressing in the last two years.

"The board has renewed his contract as he is part of our long term plans. His initial deal was supposed to expire next month," he said.

Prior to penning the deal, the 2019 second best goalkeeper is understood to have attracted interest from South African side Maritzburg and a unidentified club which plies its trade in the Botswana league.

Ndikumana announced himself in the Kenyan league in December 2018 from St. Elloi Lupopo when he was headhunted by Sofapaka but his stay at the club was short lived.

During his brief stay at Batoto Ba Mungu the shot stopper made history by becoming the second goalkeeper to win the player of the month of the award after Gabriel Andika.

He was named the March 2019 player of the month beating strong competition from Ulinzi Stars dangerman Enosh Ochieng, Sharks forward Eric Kapaito and KCB centre back Bethwel Warambo.

He was part of the Burundi national team which participated in the 2019 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations finals held in Egypt.
