Kenga was injured during Bandari's 2-0 win over Western Stima, present day Kisumu United.

Bandari FC winger Shaban Kenga is looking forward to a positive return to the team after being on the sidelines for slightly over a year since his injury in January last year.

Kenga broke his limb while in action against Western Stima, who have since rebranded to Kisumu United, during their year opener at Mbaraki Grounds on January 3, 2021, and was initially ruled out for four months after going under the knife.

However, despite recovering through the year, the attacker was advised by the team doctor against resuming competitive football until the surgical screws used in the initial operation were removed.

The former Gor Mahia player was set to undergo surgery today to extract the screws as per the doctor's advice, with the player remaining upbeat that he will be better upon his return after the procedure.

"I purpose to get back to the field and see what condition I will be in after the surgery but I hope for the better. I had resumed training even with the screws and I felt I was good. With the screws removed, I believe I will be better than I have been," he told the club's media.

The 27-year-old recounted his stay out of action, terming it a tough period but at the same time remaining thankful to the club and his teammates for the support they have offered him all year round.

"It has been a year and seven days since I got injured. It has been a tough period but through God and encouragement from my friends that this is something that happens to players. It is not something that one expects so you have to be strong mentally.I am thankful to the team and my fellow players for they have played their part 100%," he added.
