The game will be staged at the Kasarani Annex on Saturday
Keya Police head coach Francis Baraza is anticipating a tough encounter in their opening match of the 2023-2024 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) season against Kariobangi Sharks at the Kasarani Annex on Saturday.
Police who have been splashing cash and signing bi names in the transfer market have arguably the best players and depth in the league.
However, their opulence will count for nothing when they face Sharks in one of the four duels scheduled to be played in day one of the season, according to Baraza.
The CAF A licensed tactician was quick to observe that Sharks had equally talented players who are handled by a tactician who possesses wealth of experience in the top flight.
“We might have beaten them home and away last season but this Saturday’s game will be a different ball game. They have good players and the team is coached well. They have also brought in good and talented players and thus, we are expecting a tough game,” said Baraza in an interview with club media.
The former Tusker assistant coach, cautioned his charges to approach the match with caution and grant Sharks the respect they deserve.
“My players understand the threat posed by Sharks. I have told them to remain focused on starting well,” said Baraza.
Commenting on the preparedness of the team, the former Chemelil Sugar coach revealed that he was impressed with the fitness levels and the coordination in the team.
Police played two friendly matches in Tanzania against Singida Fountain Gate and Namungo. The club also featured in a similar number of matches in Rwanda against Rayon Sports and the Rwandese Police team.
“The fitness levels are good given the pre-season activities we have had. The remaining bit of the preparation for the first game and the season at large will be covered in the remaining time,” he stated.
Meanwhile the club’s attacking midfielder Tyson Otieno can’t wait to face his immediate former employer on Saturday.
Otieno ditched Sharks for Police last month in an infamous move that was widely reported by the media.
“I am looking forward to the game. Facing Sharks will be definitely a good challenge,” said the former Wazito man.
