Battle of unbeaten Reds and Crystal Palace; Man City terror continues

Reading Time: 4min | Sat. 27.09.25. | 13:05

In today’s derby, the teams of Arne Slot and Oliver Glasner, both on long winning streaks, face off, while on the other side Manchester City are expected to continue their domination over Burnley

It’s set to be an exciting Saturday in the Premier League as two of the league’s heavyweights take to the pitch in very different circumstances. Liverpool travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace, while Manchester City host Burnley at the Etihad Stadium. Both matches carry their own intrigue, from title ambitions to early-season form and injury concerns.

Saturday’s Premier League action promises drama at both ends of the table, with Liverpool traveling to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace, while Manchester City host Burnley at the Etihad Stadium. Both matches carry weight for the title race and early-season momentum, but the contexts for each team couldn’t be more different.

Liverpool and Crystal Palace remain unbeaten so far, yet their positions in the table tell different stories. The Reds have converted all five of their league games into victories, building a five-point cushion over their nearest challengers, while Palace have drawn too often and sit four places and six points behind the leaders.

Palace, however, boast the longest ongoing top-flight unbeaten run, now standing at 11 games, and aim to reach 12 this Saturday – a feat only previously achieved in 1990 under Steve Coppell. Their recent 2-1 away win at West Ham, with goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell, highlights their resilience, while having conceded just two league goals this season matches Arsenal’s defensive record.

Injuries remain a mixed bag for Palace. Yeremy Pino, sidelined at halftime last weekend with a knee complaint, has trained all week and is expected to feature, while Ismaila Sarr, who had a thigh issue, is also in contention, leaving Daichi Kamada potentially out of the starting XI. Crystal Palace will still be without Cheick Doucoure, Chadi Riad, Walter Benitez, Odsonne Edouard, and Caleb Kporha.

Liverpool face the absence of Hugo Ekitike, suspended after a red card in midweek’s EFL Cup clash with Southampton, while Giovanni Leoni’s ACL injury could rule him out for the season. Otherwise, Arne Slot has a full squad and may rotate heavily after midweek, with as many as 10 changes expected and Alexander Isak likely to make his full Premier League debut.

Meanwhile, over in Manchester, City aim to recover from last weekend’s draw with Arsenal and continue their dominance over promoted sides. Their midweek 2-0 EFL Cup win over Huddersfield secured a fourth-round tie at Swansea City, but the busy fixture schedule looms with matches against Burnley, Brentford, and a Champions League clash with Monaco in just eight days.

City have a historic edge over Burnley, winning 22 of their last 24 league matches against promoted teams and enjoying a 13-game winning streak over the Clarets across all competitions.

Erling Haaland returns after a minor back issue, bolstering Guardiola’s attacking options, and Mateo Kovacic could make his season debut. Key players like Gianluigi Donnarumma, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, Rodri, Tijjani Reijnders, Jeremy Doku, and Bernardo Silva are expected to start, while Rico Lewis or Matheus Nunes may fill in at right-back.

Burnley, sitting 16th and winless in their last four games, will look to exploit any City slip-ups, though they are dealing with multiple injuries, including Jordan Beyer, Connor Roberts, and Zeki Amdouni, with Jacob Bruun Larsen doubtful.

Across both matches, fans can expect a mix of tactical battles, squad rotations, and individual stars making an impact, ensuring that Saturday will be a compelling day in the Premier League.
