Bayern's win and Gnabry's hat-trick in the shadow of Mane's injury

Reading Time: 3min | Wed. 09.11.22. | 00:20

The Bavarians thrashed Werder 6-1

For Bayern Munich fans, every week is a festival and the Bavarians are always winning. For the rest of Germany, it’s a dull affair, in which the nine-time consecutive Bundesliga winners are…well, always winning. In another round, another firm Bayern win. And every report looks the same, as Julian Nagelsmann’s men are the ones with a triumph in the end. The only uncertainty at Bayern matches is how many goals they will score and will Choupo-Moting will be among them. And in today’s game, the final score was 6-1 and the in-form Cameroonian striker failed to score. He had his ideal chance in the 18th minute, but his shot from the penalty spot was poor and was saved.

The main theme of the game was however a potential injury to the African star Sadio Mane. The Senegalese captain picked up the injury in the 15th minute and required treatment, before being replaced by former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane five minutes later. The former Liverpool player went directly down the tunnel on his own two feet for further treatment but just after the game ended, nobody was yet sure what is the extent of the injury, or if it was just a precaution before the World Cup.

As for the game itself, the Bavarians opened the scoring early, as Jamal Musiala scored in another game, in the 6th minute. Anthony Jung surprisingly levelled the match four minutes later, but that was it from the guests, who are one of the most pleasant surprises in the Bundesliga so far. Serge Gnabry scored the second goal for Bayern just after Choupo-Moting missed the penalty kick. German winger added another one in the 28th minute, while Leon Goretzka scored the third goal two minutes later.

After 4 goals in 28 minutes, everybody at the stadium (Werder fans included) thought that a ‘massacre’ would follow, but surprisingly, only two more goals were scored until the end. Sergie Gnabry added his third goal with a stunning solo effort, in which he dribbled two defenders and scored through the legs of the third one, and the goalkeeper. Newly bought Mathys Tel was also on the scoresheet in the 84th minute. The guests were just too weak for Bayern, and the home team controlled the match but didn’t play with full strength, probably thinking about the upcoming World Cup. Nagelsmann took off Qatar travelers Choupo-Moting Goretzka, Hernandes and Musiala, but kept Kimmich for the whole 90 minutes.
