The 31-year-old, best remembered for his heroic contributions to Liverpool's modern era, announced his retirement in an interview with Sky Sports, citing a desire to embrace a new chapter after recent spells in Italy and England.
Origi leaves the game with a reputation as one of football's most dependable big-match performers.
Although he was often deployed as a squad player, the striker consistently delivered on the grandest stages, earning a special place in Liverpool's history.
His defining moments came during Liverpool's triumphant UEFA Champions League campaign in 2018/19.
Origi scored crucial goals throughout the tournament, including a memorable brace against Barcelona in the historic 4-0 semi-final comeback at Anfield before finding the net again in the Champions League final victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid.
Having risen through the ranks at Belgian side Genk before making his breakthrough at French club Lille, Origi joined Liverpool in 2014.
During his eight-year stay at Anfield, he won the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, becoming an integral part of one of the club's most successful periods.
Following his departure from Liverpool in 2022, Origi signed for AC Milan in search of a fresh challenge.
However, opportunities proved limited at the Italian giants, and subsequent spells away from Anfield failed to replicate the success and impact he enjoyed on Merseyside.
He later spent time with Nottingham Forest as he sought regular playing time and a new direction in his career.
Reflecting on his decision, Origi acknowledged that his experiences in Italy and England over the past few seasons helped shape his thinking and convinced him that the time was right to step away from competitive football.
His retirement marks the end of a distinguished career that produced memorable moments, major trophies and lasting memories for supporters across Europe.
While his playing days have come to an end, Origi departs the sport as a player whose knack for delivering when it mattered most will long be remembered.
