The Austria international finally clocked 90 minutes in a game, five years after becoming a first-team professional
It's never too late for a bizarre story. This one occurred last weekend in Germany, but it's so unique and startling that it deserves to be told. Better late than never, as the headline suggests.
The same proverb goes for Carney Chukwuemeka, whose strange case is definitely one of a kind.
Namely, until last Saturday, the new Austria international has never played a full match in his first-team professional career!

For five years, Chukwuemeka has been either subbed off as a starter (19 times) or coming off the bench as a sub (82 times), but never witnessed both a referee's first and final whistle on the pitch. To make matters worse, the 22-year-old wasn't even close, as he's never made it past the 83rd minute.

Wearing the jerseys of Aston Villa, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, and the Austria national team, the midfielder made 101 appearances before the Bundesliga clash against Hoffenheim six days ago, when the BVB boss Niko Kovac finally allowed him to clock 90 minutes.
Now, the new chapter for Chukwuemeka begins, as he's accomplished his long-standing mission, though his case will remain remembered as one of the most bizarre in football's history.
