Though Inter sit six points clear of AC Milan at the top, recent results have kept their city rivals in contention with eight rounds remaining.
Inter head into this contest still leading the table despite a recent dip in form. Over their last five matches across all competitions, they have managed just one win, alongside three draws and one defeat, scoring four goals and conceding five in that stretch.
In Serie A specifically, they are unbeaten in their last two but have struggled for consistency compared to earlier dominance. However, their home form remains a major strength, with 11 wins, two draws, and only two losses at San Siro this season, underlining their resilience on home soil.
Team news is a major boost for Inter, with captain Lautaro Martinez set to return from injury.
The Argentine striker still leads the scoring charts with 14 league goals and remains pivotal to their attack. Marcus Thuram, despite a dip in club form, could partner him, while Pio Esposito has also contributed recently.
Defensively, Alessandro Bastoni is expected to feature despite recent criticism, though injuries to Yann Bisseck and Carlos Augusto limit options. Francesco Acerbi may step in, adding experience to the backline.
Roma arrive in mixed form as they continue their push for a top-four finish, currently level on points with Juventus and just three behind the Champions League spots.
In their last five matches, they have recorded one win, two draws, and two losses, scoring four goals and conceding five.
Their away form is a concern, however, with their last victory on the road coming back in January and seven of their 10 league defeats occurring away from home.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side will rely heavily on Donyell Malen, who has been in excellent form since joining, scoring seven league goals.
Support could come from Lorenzo Pellegrini and Matias Soule, while Manu Kone is also back in contention.
However, Roma are dealing with several injury issues, with Evan Ferguson sidelined and doubts lingering over Paulo Dybala and Artem Dovbyk, though both are nearing returns. Wesley is also unavailable after picking up a muscle injury.
Historically, this fixture has been competitive, with Inter edging the reverse fixture 1-0 earlier in the season. Roma have, however, won two of their last three visits to San Siro, suggesting they can pose a threat despite current inconsistencies.
Key Pointers;
- AS Roma have won one of their last three games
- Chivu’s men boast home advantage and a league-best defensive record, conceding only 24 goals in 30 matches
- Gian Piero Gasperini faced Cristian Chivu on one occasion, recording a loss.
- Gian Piero Gasperini has faced Internazionale on 33 occasions, recording five wins, nine draws, and 19 losses
Given the circumstances, Inter appear well-placed to secure a narrow victory. Their home advantage, combined with the return of key attacking personnel, should prove decisive in what is expected to be a tight and tactical encounter. A low-scoring game is likely, with Inter edging it 1-0.
Prediction: Inter Win
