Bologna will welcome AC Milan to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on Tuesday evening in a fixture that carries very different stakes for both sides.

While Milan arrive as genuine title contenders chasing down Inter at the summit, Bologna are fighting to arrest a worrying domestic slide that has dragged them back toward mid-table.

Bologna’s season began with promise, but recent weeks have exposed structural cracks in Vincenzo Italiano’s side.

The Rossoblu currently sit ninth in the standings with 30 points from 22 matches, already 13 points off the Champions League places.

Back-to-back league defeats have further damaged momentum, most recently a chaotic 3-2 collapse away to Genoa, where they squandered a two-goal half-time lead.

Across their last five Serie A matches, Bologna have conceded ten goals, underlining their defensive instability, while managing to score eight in the same period - evidence of attacking output that is often undone by poor game management.

Home form has been a major concern. Bologna are winless in their last five league matches at the Dall’Ara, losing four of those fixtures and collecting just one point.

Despite generating chances - 83% of their last six matches have seen both teams score - they have struggled to protect leads and close out games.

The absence of defensive leader Jhon Lucumi and the suspension of first-choice goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski further weakens an already fragile back line, with Federico Ravaglia expected to deputise in goal.

Riccardo Orsolini remains their main attacking threat, leading the scoring charts with seven league goals, and he is likely to start behind a lone striker.

AC Milan, by contrast, arrives with composure and consistency, even if their attacking fluency has dipped slightly.

The Rossoneri are second in Serie A with 47 points, having lost just once all season.

They are unbeaten in their last 21 league matches, the longest current streak across Europe’s top five leagues.

However, recent performances suggest control rather than dominance: Milan have drawn three of their last five league games and scored more than once in only one of their last six outings. Away from home, Milan remains formidable.

They are unbeaten in their last 11 Serie A away matches, winning six and conceding just seven goals in total.

Defensively, Max Allegri’s side continues to excel, allowing an average of just 0.77 goals per match this season.

Even without the injured Santiago Gimenez, Milan have ample attacking depth through Rafael Leão, Christian Pulisic, Christopher Nkunku, and Niclas Fullkrug, who recently scored the winner against Lecce.

With a light schedule due to their absence from European competition, Milan are well-rested and may field an unchanged XI.

Historically, this fixture has leaned Milan’s way. Bologna have won just one of the last 20 league meetings, while Milan have taken victories in two of the last three encounters.

Although last season’s Coppa Italia final went Bologna’s way, Milan responded with a narrow league win earlier this campaign.

Key betting pointers;

Bologna have lost four of their last five home league games

AC Milan are unbeaten in 11 away Serie A matches

Milan have lost only once in the league all season

Bologna have conceded 27 league goals, the most among teams above them

Despite Bologna’s tendency to score, their defensive issues and poor home form make this a difficult matchup.

Milan’s control, defensive solidity, and strong away record give them a clear edge.

With the Rossoneri unbeaten, hard to break down, and facing a struggling host, the value lies in an AC Milan win, with a narrow scoreline also aligning with Milan’s recent low-scoring trend.

Prediction: AC Milan win
