Nairobi United defender Daniel Bichiok believes the team has what it takes to secure promotion to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

Nairobi are in their maiden season in the second tier, having gained promotion last year following their heroics in the playoff against former top-flight side Zoo FC.

They were promoted alongside Luanda Villa and Rainbow, who won the FKF Division One Zone B and A, respectively.

Court cases distracted Nairobi earlier on in the season but have since overcame everything and look to defy the odds and garner promotion to the top tier.

Both Nairobi and Villa had the longest unbeaten runs in the campaign but have since tasted defeat twice and three times, respectively.

A look at the teams jostling for the two promotion slots on offer shows that Nairobi are the most inexperienced, but that doesn’t stop Bichiok from believing in their abilities.

The 2008 Kenyan Premier League winners, Mathare United and Naivas, have been swapping places at the top, but Bichiok believes that they will soon take control and win the competition.

Nairobi is ranked with 35 points, two shy of Mathare and four off Naivas, who are at the summit.

The two top teams will be automatically promoted to the Premier League, with the third-placed team playing the third-bottom team in the top tier in the promotion/relegation playoff.

“We have what it takes to get promoted. We are ambitious and working hard to attain our goals as a team,” said the South Sudanese defender.

The former Ruiru Hotstars player, in the meantime, lauded the calibre of players the management had signed in the mid-season transfer window.

The club secured the services of Enock Machaka from Bandari, former Kenya Police midfielder Lesley Otieno, and Erick Kipkirui from Posta Rangers.

“These are experienced players who will definitely help the team get promoted,” he remarked.
