The last time Birgen scored was back in July in the 2-1 win over Wazito

Ulinzi Stars right-back Brian Birgen has been a mainstay in the side and was delighted to get on the scoresheet in the 2-0 win over AFC Leopards on Friday.

Birgen opened the scoring for the Soldiers just before halftime as his shot fortuitously ended in the back of the net after a howler from Maxwell Mulili who opted not to dive after misjudging the direction of the ball.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Birgen opened up on putting an end to his wait for a goal after notching a couple of assists over the years with his last goal coming in the 2-1 win over Wazito in July.

“We took the recent lose to AFC Leopards as a challenge for us and break their winning streak and that is why we performed as we did,”

“I feel elated by the goal, I have been really wanting to score a goal for Ulinzi, I have tried many times but today God has answered my prayers, the last time I scored a league goal was last season,” said Birgen.

Hillary Simiyu secured all three points for Ulinzi in the second half with his first strike for the club since joining from Nzoia Sugar in the offseason transfer window.

There were a few who debated whether Birgen intended to score the goal but the defender insisted that you cannot win the raffle if you do not buy a ticket.

“When I received the ball and controlled it, I saw there was no one to give the ball and decided to make an attempt which went all the way in, if you do not attempt you cannot score,” said Birgen.
