The Coppa Italia has reached its climax - Olimpico witnessed Inter’s convincing victory just a few days ago, but this time, the trophy itself is at stake

The Coppa Italia Final takes center stage at the iconic Stadio Olimpico, where Lazio and Inter Milan meet once again just five days after their latest league encounter.

Inter head into Wednesday’s showdown full of confidence after a commanding 3-0 win over Lazio in Serie A last weekend. Cristian Chivu saw his side dominate against ten-man opponents, strengthening the belief that the Nerazzurri are well positioned to complete a domestic double after already securing the Scudetto.

For Lazio, this final carries enormous significance. With their league campaign failing to deliver a European berth, lifting the Coppa Italia represents their only remaining path into continental competition next season. Maurizio Sarri will hope that added motivation can inspire a much stronger performance than the one they produced on Saturday.

The Biancocelesti can take encouragement from their recent form, having won six of their last nine matches in all competitions. However, history offers little comfort, as Lazio have failed to beat Inter in their last nine meetings, collecting just two draws and suffering seven defeats in that stretch.

Inter, meanwhile, are chasing a landmark achievement. The club is aiming to win the Coppa Italia for the tenth time, a feat only Juventus have managed before. Their current nine-match unbeaten run underlines why they are considered favorites to lift the trophy.

Lazio’s route to the final has been dramatic. After defeating AC Milan in the Round of 16, they needed penalty shootout victories over Bologna and Atalanta to book their place in Rome. Young goalkeeper Edoardo Motta emerged as the hero in the semi-final, producing four saves in the decisive shootout.

Inter’s journey was more straightforward but still demanding. They opened with a 5-1 victory over Venezia, edged past Torino, and then overcame Como in a thrilling semi-final after recovering from a two-goal deficit in the second leg.

Team news could also play an important role. Lazio are without Ivan Provedel and Danilo Cataldi, although Alessio Romagnoli is available despite his recent dismissal. Gustav Isaksen is expected to return to the starting XI.

Inter will be missing Hakan Calhanoglu and Pio Esposito. Piotr Zielinski is likely to step into midfield, while the attacking duo of Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez should lead the line.

Given Inter’s excellent form and Lazio’s struggles in this fixture, the Nerazzurri appear to have the upper hand. Still, cup finals often produce surprises, and Lazio know that one inspired performance could salvage their season in the most dramatic way possible.
