Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove has kept all of Italy on edge in recent days after a distressing incident during a match against Inter. Bove collapsed on the field, requiring immediate medical attention. He was promptly transferred to a cardiology clinic in Florence. Initial reports were optimistic, with Bove even addressing his teammates via video link to wish them luck ahead of their Coppa Italia match against Empoli. However, the continuation of his football career, though secondary to his health, remains uncertain.

The medical team, led by Professor Pasquale Bernardo, has decided to implant a defibrillator in Bove. While this is a routine surgical procedure, it will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the 22-year-old’s career trajectory. Strict Italian regulations prohibit players with implanted defibrillators from competing at a professional level. A similar situation forced Christian Eriksen to continue his career abroad following his cardiac arrest during the 2021 European Championship.

According to Gazzetta, Bove has been fully briefed on his situation and has accepted the outcome with remarkable maturity for someone his age. The young central midfielder is currently under contract with Roma (he is in Fiorentina on a loan) and will need to negotiate the termination of his deal with the club. However, his immediate focus is on his health—he is scheduled for surgery on Monday, followed by a two-week recovery period.
