Breaking: CAF ban Gor Mahia duo for thuggery

Confederation of African Football (CAF) has slapped Gor Mahia duo of Kenneth Muguna and Boniface Oluoch with a fine of Ksh. 1.6 million each for skirmishes during Confederation Cup play-off tie in Zambia. The pair will also miss four Caf inter-club matches as part of the sanctions for their actions.

The two were charged with attacking and insulting match officials after the match between Napsa Stars of Zambia and Gor Mahia in February 2021. Trouble started when Napsa Stars scored their second goal of the game from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time with Gor leading 2-1, the goal helped Napsa progress to Caf Confederation Cup group stage at the expense of the Kenyan giants.

CAF opened investigations into the matter and went ahead to charge the pair. The Caf Disciplinary body has now slapped the two with huge fines in addition to missing four inter-club matches, the fine has to be paid within 60 days. Gor has also been instructed to pay for the damages caused by the players in the dressing after the match.

Here is an excerpt of the ruling;

Caf disciplinary board decided to impose the following sanctions:

1.      Suspend both players namely Otieno Oluoch Boniface and Mugambi Muguna Kenneth for their next interclub matches

2.      Impose upon each player a financial sanction 0f 15000 USD for their regrettable aggressive behavior against the referee

3.       Instruct Gor Mahia club to check the cost of damages incurred by Napsa Stars and reimburse them the cost of damages caused by their players.

 

Gor and the players have been given room to appeal the decision within three days of notification of the decision
