Clifton Miheso moved to court in February 2022 to sue Gor for breach of contract

The Sports Disputes Tribunal has ordered Gor Mahia to pay their former player Clifton Miheso Ksh 2,225,000 for breach of contract.

The winger, who featured for Gor between 2019 and 2021 had last year in February moved to court demanding that he be paid monies owed to him by his former employer.

Miheso demanded that he be paid his signing fee arrears and the remaining half salary that the club withheld during the Covid 19 period as they cited financial challenges.

When he moved to court, Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier in an interview explained that the Covid 19 period had been a challenging one for the club and that they had explained to the player the reason they couldn't meet their financial obligations then.

"It was a difficult time for everyone, not only Gor Mahia, but the whole country. We had to pay salaries even though there was no football being played," Gor Mahia chairman Rachier told Mozzart Sport.

"We paid half salary during the period after our sponsor halved their sponsorship package. We explained this to the players, and many saw the sense." He added.

The John Ohaga led tribunal has now hit Gor with more financial dent. They will have to part with Ksh 2.25 million plus costs incured by the player during the case period. They'll also have to pay interest.

The matter will be mentioned on the 12th of September to confirm compliance.

This comes weeks after they were forced to pay their former players millions in accrued salaries. Adama Keita, Yangayay Sando Sando and Jules Ulimwengu had reported the club to FIFA and the Kenyan champions had to settle all the monies owed to them after the revocation of their license by the federation. They were also kicked out of the CAF Champions League.

He becomes the second local player to be awarded a big sum by the court. Last year the court awarded former Gor Mahia defender Wellington Ochieng 1.7 million for breach of contract. The player then moved to auction the club bus after they failed to pay him a stipulated.
