Club seeks to raise Ksh 2.1 million to clear with three former players
The dire financial situation at AFC Leopards occasioned by fines imposed by FIFA has seen the club resort to raising money through their branches to pay their former players and coaches.
The club was boxed into a tough financial conundrum after their former foreign players and coaches rushed to FIFA to compel the den pay the salary arrears accumulated during their stay at the club. FIFA responded to their cries by imposing a two-season long transfer embargo and ordered the former league champions to clear up with their former employees.
The club was slapped with a two-window transfer ban in February this year for failing to settle Ksh 1.7 million owed to Rwandese midfielder Vincent Habamahoro. The ex Kiyovu player arrived at the den in July 2019 and left in January the following year over pay dispute and would head to Zurich to demand for his dues.

Ingwe’s plot thickened when their former coach Andre Casa Mbungo also took the route to FIFA demanding in excess of six million Kenya shillings while the duo of Tresor Ndikumana and Soter Kayumba were also reported to have sought assistance from the global body.
Serbian coach Marko Vasiljevic also reported the club to FIFA for breach of contract.
With the club unable to sign new players, the executive branch secretary general Hosea Kisienya has appealed to each branch to contribute at least Ksh.30, 000 to help pay three of their former players before next week or risk harsher sanctions.
“The club finds itself in a very difficult and pressing situation following the FIFA transfer ban for the next two seasons with a threat of being relegated to the lower division if it does not pay its 3 former players a total of 2.1m shillings before 17th September 2022. On behalf of the Committee of Chairmen, I humbly request you as a branch to help raise the amount by contributing 30,000/- per branch that will show commitment and willingness to pay the fine imposed on us. If we pull together we will be able to smile again as a club,” he said in a communique to all branches.
