Brutally honest Amorim: 'It's one of the most difficult moments in the history of Man Utd'

The Portuguese has also admitted that his team is in the relegation fight

Man United fans expected that sacking Erik ten Hag would solve all the Red Devils' problems. The Dutchman left, but the problems are still there. Moreover, they seem to be piling up. Ruben Amorim failed to bring anything new (yet) and does not seem like a man with a plan for now.

After the latest defeat to Newcastle (2-0), United are 14th, "only" seven points above the relegation zone. However, as for the Portuguese gaffer, his team is in the relegation battle.

"That is really clear. It's one of the most difficult moments in the history of Man Utd and we have to address it with honesty," Amorim said to Sky Sports.

The strategist claimed that acknowledging the current situation, no matter how unpleasant it was, is the key to "healing."

"So we have to acknowledge our position, the way you see the league, everybody can beat everybody. So we have to engage and focus on surviving," he stated.

Finally, the 39-year-old refused to blame his players, taking full responsibility for the recent woeful spell.

"Yeah, it's also my fault in this moment because I think the team know it's not improved. I think it's a little bit lost in this moment, so it's a little bit embarrassing to be Manchester United coach and to lose a lot of games. I am responsible, I don't like to arrive here and make excuses. I think people are tired of excuses in this club," Amorim admitted in the post-game press conference via the club's official website.
