Queens gained promotion to the top flight after overpowering Uweza Women in post match penalities
Kenya Women Premier League side Bungoma Queens chairman Erick Wafula Maranga has set a top-eight finish target for his charges ahead of their debut season in the women's top flight league.
Queens are in the league by virtue of emerging victorious in a promotion play off staged months ago at the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology Grounds, Nakuru.
The Sang’alo Institute-powered club defeated Zone A runners-up Uweza Women FC 6-5 in post-match penalty shootouts to book a spot on the big stage.
The club administrator believes the Queens are well prepared to compete against some of the well-established sides in the league and avoid relegation at the culmination of the yet to start campaign.
"We are excited for our first appearance in the league and cannot wait to get started," said Wafula.
"Obviously, we are the underdogs in the league, but people should not rule us out with the signings we have brought in. I believe a top-eight finish is what we are going for, and we will later see if we can contest for the title," he added.
The club boss further called out club supporters and well-wishers to stand with the team as they navigate through the league, affirming that without enough back up they may fumble their chances at the big stage.
"This is a new league that involves a lot of travelling, which may prove a hustle for my side. Therefore, we welcome any well-wishers willing to partner with us to make the girls realize their dreams and make us competitive," he concluded.
Under the tutelage of Robert Machio, the club has roped in some of the most celebrated women talents with vast experience in top flight football to make them competitive in their maiden league appearance
Some of the big names linking up with the club this season are Linda Ruchu from Oserian, Nakuru City Queens trio of Deborah Barasa, Ruth Nekesa and Miriam Chelagat.
Others are Linda Okoside from Thika Queens, Noel Amutatia from Transnzoia Falcons and Citrine Waswa from Eldoret Falcons.
The club start the season with a crunch fixture against fellow debutants Kibera Soccer Women at Sudi Stadium on Saturday morning.
