Roberto Firmino decided to leave Liverpool
After eight years and six trophies, Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino will leave Anfield at the end of the season. German journalist Florian Plettenberg exclusively broke the news on Friday afternoon.
According to Plettenberg, the Sky Sports Germany star reporter, Firmino informed his coach Jurgen Klopp that he wouldn't sign a new contract with Liverpool and will depart the club as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of June.
Klopp has previously made clear that he wanted Firmino to extend his contract with the Reds, outlining earlier in the year that he felt the January arrival of Cody Gakpo would have no impact on the future of Liverpool's No. 9. But with no new contract agreed, it seems Firmino has decided to move on, with links to clubs in the Middle East and in Italy in recent months.
Plettenberg added that Firmino "wants to make another step with his family," but has yet to decide on his next club.
The Brazilian will turn 32 this year and is starting to suffer from injuries. Time waits for no man and it looks like the years of top-level football are finally catching up with the former Hoffenheim goalscorer.

Having first joined the Reds in 2015, Firmino has won eight trophies in his time at Anfield. Naby Keita is among the other Liverpool players expected to leave upon the expiration of his contract this summer, with Adrian, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also possibly leaving as free agents. It's the end of an era at Anfield.
