Former Gor Mahia captain David Owino has laid bare the difference between his side then and the K'Ogalo team now.
Kenyan international David Calabar Owino has opened up on the difference between the Gor Mahia team he captained and the beleaguered side now.
Gor Mahia have struggled to hit the heights they are used to this season as they sit sixth on the log standings and are on the brink of elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Calabar noted that the side is lacking quality international players compared to when he lifted the league back to back in 2013 and 2014.
“There is not much difference but the difference between my time and now is that most of the international players we had were playing for their national teams, we as Kenyans also used to play in the national team too.”
“That is the quality that is needed to make the difference, if you are in the national team it means you are a cut above the rest which makes games a bit easier when you assemble and play for the club,” said Calabar.

The defender who now plies his trade with Napsa Stars also noted that the current Gor Mahia side lacks experience with most of their players still at the dawn of their careers.
Gor Mahia suffered a frustrating 0-1 loss to Napsa in the CAF Confederation Cup Play-Offs at home, leaving them with an uphill battle to turn things around in Zambia.
On the side what was paraded by coach Manuel Vaz Pinto on Sunday, only two were foreigners with Tito Okello the only regular for South Sudan as Jules Ulimwengu does not command a starting berth for Rwanda.
In recent seasons Gor Mahia have let go of their top players with Jacques Tuyisenge, Francis Kahata, Meddie Kagere, Geoffrey Walusimbi and Joash Onyango leaving.
Gor Mahia next face Napsa Stars on Sunday 21 February hoping to seal a place in the group stages only for the first time in their history.
