Everton hope they can finally reach new heights and that the Portuguese might be the one to get them there

The pail episode of old-new Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park was a strange one. The Toffees did open their previous Premier League campaign in great manner however it ended as many before - outside the top six.

Now, Everton executives are on the hunt for a successor of the Italian.

After an exhaustive 12 days following the departure of Ancelotti, Farhad Moshiri - who has been driving the recruitment process as Everton's major shareholder - is preparing to put an offer for ex-Wolves gaffer, Portuguese Nuno Espirito Santo.

Nuno, who held lengthy talks with Crystal Palace about succeeding Roy Hodgson, is close to becoming Everton's new manager and will be formally offered the position this weekend.

British-Iranian businessman Moshiri, who has never been afraid to dig deep, has put together a package that is attractive to the 47-year-old.

Since Ancelotti quit to join Los Blancos of Madrid, Moshiri has considered many managers or their representatives - Rafa Benitez, Manuel Pellegrini and Paolo Fonseca - to name a few.

Marcel Brand, Everton's director of football, added Christopher Galtier, who led Lille to Ligue 1 success, to the list of candidates.

The process is now heading to a point where former goalkeeper Nuno could be officially announced by Everton early next week.

There were even talks of bringing back the Everton legend David Moyes, who is now in charge of West Ham and is leading the Hammers in the right direction as they were one of the great surprises of the past season. However, the Scotsman extended his contract with the London club.

Earlier this week, Vitor Perreria - who at one stage was favourite to replace Marco Silva when Moshiri sacked him in December 2019 - was also put forward as an option.
