Championship calling! West Ham's nightmare is one step away

The Hammers crumbled at Newcastle (1-3), and now only a miracle involving Tottenham can keep Nuno Espirito Santo's side in the Premier League.
West Ham United are staring EFL Championship football in the face after a disastrous 3-1 defeat away to Newcastle United left their Premier League survival hopes hanging by the thinnest of threads.
Nuno Espirito Santo's side arrived at St James' Park on Sunday needing courage, urgency and probably a win. Instead, they delivered panic, hesitation and a defensive collapse that may ultimately define their season.

The Hammers were ripped apart inside four chaotic first-half minutes. First, Nick Woltemade punished dreadful defending after Harvey Barnes capitalised on a catastrophic error at the back. Moments later, another careless turnover allowed William Osula to race through on goal and finish past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 before the 20-minute mark.
At that point, West Ham already looked beaten - mentally as much as tactically.
The visitors played with fear throughout the opening half, sitting deep despite the desperate circumstances surrounding their survival battle. Nuno's setup backfired badly, and the Portuguese coach reacted furiously by making a substitution before the half-hour mark, throwing on Taty Castellanos in an attempt to rescue something from the wreckage.
Ironically, Castellanos was virtually the only bright spark in claret and blue.
But before his influence could matter, West Ham handed Newcastle another gift. Pablo lost possession cheaply in the second half, Osula struck again, and the Magpies cruised into a 3-0 lead without ever needing to move through the gears.
Castellanos at least restored a sliver of pride with a sensational long-range volley that lobbed the goalkeeper and briefly gave the travelling supporters something to celebrate. By then, though, the damage had long been done.

The defeat leaves West Ham United three points adrift of safety in 18th place with only one match remaining. Worse still, their fate may already be sealed before they even kick another ball.
If Tottenham Hotspur defeat Chelsea on Tuesday, West Ham will officially be relegated. Even a Spurs draw would almost certainly send the Hammers down, given their disastrous goal difference.

They'll be safe if they get at least 1️⃣ point from their next two games 👀

To survive, Nuno's men now need Tottenham to lose both remaining matches - against Chelsea and Everton - while West Ham themselves must beat Leeds on the final day.
After a performance this timid and chaotic, belief around the club is rapidly disappearing.
