Mozambique waited for the last quarter of an hour reverse the situation and eliminate the Libyans after their second consecutive defeat.
Coming into this match, Mozambique had played to a barren draw with Ethiopia and were therefore desperately needed a victory to avoid elimination. The Mambas dominated the early exchanges but at the break, they trailed by a solitary goal courtesy of an own goal by Francisco Muchanga.
Wanting to clear a cross from Mohammed Al Munir, Chico deceived his goalkeeper and put the ball in the back of the net on 23 minutes. Mozambique pushed to get back on the mark before half-time but in vain.
