After topping group A, Kenya is set to face Madagascar in the first quarter-final match of the ongoing 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled for Friday,22 August 2025.
To finish at the apex of Group A, Harambee Stars played for a 1-0 victory over Zambia in a match that was played with only 60% (27,000) of spectators allowed into the facility.
The reduction of spectators was occasioned by various security breaches by previous Harambee Stars home matches that culminated in the breakage of numerous gates against Morocco, which saw Kasarani full, way above capacity.
However, for the first time since the tournament was started, Kenya's home match ended without any report of misbehavior that would warrant a CHAN sanction.
It is on that backdrop that FKF has appealed to CAF to consider restoring the full number of spectators for the Madagascar clash.
“FKF has already appealed to CAF to have the numbers revised; However, we await CAF’s response and will communicate any updates in due course,” reads part of a statement by the Sports Ministry as signed by Salim Mvurya.
Mvurya also announced an increase in fan zones to reduce the number of fans without tickets coming into the stadium.
Ruiru, Dagoretti, Camp Toyoyo, and Baba Dogo will join the previous 10 working fan zones.
Mvurya also spoke about the ticketing saga, which has seen the biggest chunk of genuine fans fail to buy tickets to the last four.
“CAF is sorting out the issue of ticketing. We are confident they will announce soon how fans can access tickets through the portal. In the meantime, we urge Kenyans to maintain their high spirit and unity and unwavering support for the Harambee Stars,” stated Mvurya.
The former Mining CS also urged Kenyans to uphold the unity experienced amongst fans currently and not be divided by politicians.
