David Cheche Ochieng was conspicuously missing in the win over Nzoia Sugar with Salim Ali explaining his absence.
Mathare United head coach Salim Ali revealed that experienced center-back David Cheche Ochieng’ missed the win over Nzoia Sugar after suffering an abdomen injury.
The former AFC Leopards defender has featured in every game for Mathare this season after running down his contract at Saudi Arabian side Al-Ansar in November.
Speaking after the win over Nzoia, Ali provided an injury update over Cheche noting that he experienced difficulties in breathing following his injury.
“Cheche suffered a rib injury in the draw against Western Stima and had some difficulties in breathing but he is doing well.
“After this game, we will have a 10 game break which will be enough for him to recover and return back to action,” said Ali.

Cheche who has amassed experience playing in various teams in the US and Sweden has been a vital cog in the wheel of Mathare especially in the clean sheets against Bandari and Zoo FC.
The win arrests Mathare’s slump of four games without a win with Ali revealing that the victory will lift the spirits of the boys in the upcoming fixtures.
“Getting a win with the kind of situation that we are having, a fixture after every three days, this is a good moral for the boys in the upcoming matches.
“We created some few chances in the first half but we did not utilize that, we have been scoring even when we lose so day we've kept a clean sheet I think that is the way forward,” added Ali.
Despite picking up the win, Mathare are still sitting on relegation places with eight points from eight games and are one point from safety.
